Gasoline prices have skyrocketed in the last six months, home heating costs
are expected to follow this winter, and the Ontario electricity grid is at
the point where only massive rate increases will sustain it. At the same
time climate change is one of the key challenges facing worldwide
sustainable development. Global warming, caused mainly by the burning of
fossil fuels, deforestation, and inefficient use of energy is pushing
ecosystems to the brink of catastrophic failure. This workshop will
introduce the "eco-nomic" approach to energy management and renewable energy
generation, showing you how to save money and the environment at the same
time. William Kemp has engineered low environmental impact hydroelectric
utilities worldwide. He is also an author and a sustainable living and clean
energy advocate working in such areas as renewable energy heating, energy
efficiency, photovoltaic, micro-hydro and wind electric systems. He is
author of the bestselling Renewable Energy Handbook and $mart Power; an
urban guide to renewable energy and efficiency. His next book, due for
release in early 2006, is Biodiesel: Basics and Beyond.

Come and learn why Glycomics has been declared one of the Ten Emerging
Technologies that will change the health of the world. Dr Murray, one of the
authors of Harper's Biochemistry, will explain the science behind
glyconutrient supplements. There are eight main sugars found in these
supplements. These sugars are built up into complex molecules (e.g.
glycoproteins and glycolipids) which play important roles in our bodies. All
the antibodies in human plasma and most other proteins found in plasma are
glycoproteins. These play key roles in inflammation, which can affect every
tissue of the body. Many bacteria (e.g. those causing peptic ulcers) and
viruses (e.g. HIV-1 and influenza) attach to human cells via glycoproteins.
Glycoproteins on platelets are involved in thrombosis, such as affects the
coronary arteries (causing heart attacks) or the arteries to the brain
(causing strokes). Cancer cells also show many changes in surface
glycoproteins and glycolipids, and these are likely involved in the ability
of cancer cells to spread. Evidence will be presented that supports the case
for taking glyconutrients to maintain health and wellness.
